EDPD101 Professional Ethics

This unit sets out the key principles of good conduct and practice for teachers in Papua New Guinea.
It is intended to guide teachers’ practice, judgments and decisions. The content of the unit will seek
to teach student-teachers about the standards expected of them in the teaching profession. The unit
encourages student-teachers to strive to be role-models and ethical leaders and to act within the
community in a manner that enhances the prestige of the profession. The unit will assist student-teachers
to create a framework for ethical decision-making and help them to explore professional
ethical dilemmas and to identify ethical courses of action in Papua New Guinea’s complex, culturally
diverse context. It explores the ethics and philosophy of human behaviour as the foundation of
teachers’ thought and action. Where appropriate, information and communication technology (ICT)
will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit

EDRE101 Introduction to World Religions

This unit you will be introduce to the major world religions and existing philosophies as well as their historical, geographical and spiritual backgrounds. In today’s world the increasing movement of people, due to phenomena such as migration, is a great challenge that requires an attitude of openness to different cultures, religions and traditions. As well as learning about the existence and differences between the major world religions and philosophies, you will be guided to see the importance of respect towards other peoples’ beliefs and religious traditions. In addition, Christian Scripture, Salvation History. Liturgical and Religious Education Praxis Methodology will be taught as part of your preparation in teaching Christian Religious Education in Primary Schools.


EDHU101 The Natural Environment (Geography)

Description

This unit will enable student-teachers to teach ‘The Natural Environment’ at Elementary, Junior Primary and Senior Primary levels. As well as learning the relevant subject knowledge, student-teachers will learn how to plan, teach and assess the content in an interactive and stimulating environment at each level. Wherever possible, learning should be practical and take place outside the classroom. Geographical skills will be an important feature in this unit. Where appropriate, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.
